I understand the idea of putting the traps down and waiting, but how often should I be checking the traps? If I go to bed at, say, lunchtime... what time frame do the traps trap bugs in? The time I go to bed, or the morning after? Does anyone have any tips?

if you put a scent on the trap (hold scent and walk up to it and interact to place scent)
you'll have a bug every day for the next 2-3 days
your bed time does not determine the bug. it's random
if you're hunting for a specific bug- put 2 or 3 (or more) traps in their spawn areas for a better chance

Only reason I mention the bed is because I have been skipping days to get to a rain day. This is the last bug I need for this season, and I don't wanna mess it up if going to bed will make my traps trigger for tomorrow's bugs instead.
Do traps catch bugs multiple times a day, or just once, if you empty them?

just once- thats why you want to do more than 1 in an area if you're hunting for something specific
so if it's monday- and you set traps out because it's going to rain on tuesday- you'll have a chance to catch whatever can spawn on tuesday since it's raining
im guessing you need one of the spiders?

throw 3 traps in the area right to the left of your farming going to the giants
and put as many as you can over by the lake
