Tools Disappearing from chest every day

Hiya! Long story short, my tools are disappearing from my chests every single in game day. I do know that I can retrieve them from the blacksmith, however it is getting quite frustrating to have to go get them every in game day 😅

Are your chests inside the barn or coop, or outside in the same footprint?

hi! I'm not sure what you mean by footprint, but the chests are outside beside my house!

What I mean by footprint - the coop is 4x7 tiles, but it isn't perfectly square in that footprint. People put chests right up against the building, within that 4x7 area. The issue is, the game now thinks that chest is PART of the coop.

When people put chests inside barns or coops or outside within that footprint, the game doesn't really know what to do about it. It tends to either duplicate items or just disappear the chest with all your stuff inside.

It's not as common for the issue to happen if chests are just out somewhere. Have you tried just moving the chest having the issue to a different place?

ooh I gotchya! I haven't thought to move my chests/ put the tools in a different chest! I have a chest right beside the farm warp totem, which is also near the house. Next time I am on I will move it away & see what it does/ report back!

editing to add: I noticed this started happening after the winter festival, which from what I googled that has happened to others with no answer, which is why I came here to report/ look into it! c:

Alrighty, apologies for the delay! I wanted to test moving the tools to a different box that was away from buildings, and once I realized that wouldn't solve it I wanted to grab some pictures!

Picture 1: Right when I started the day, this is what the box/ my inventory looked like. (there are duplicate tools from the last time he took my tools & it spat out regular tools along with the correct upgraded ones).

I skipped through an in game day with all of these tools back in the box including the duplicates & all remained. My next guess is that by going into the blacksmith, he decides to quickly steal my tools & also give the duplicates I can't get rid of. 🤣🤣

At this point, I am thinking it is going to the blacksmith that is causing it. 🤣 When I tested my theory, I woke up with all of the tools there, and when I went to the blacksmith, that's when it triggered the prompt that I had 'missing' tools and he gave them back plus the duplicates I can't get rid of.

When I put everything back in that box and just skipped a day, they all were there when I woke up. 🤔

Otherwise my days usually consist of doing the farm stuff, going to the blacksmith, then the ocean or mines, and rinse & repeat that!

Which I don't know how you'd check all that, but just to make it easier the tools are in a stone box near the pond on the right of the farm! (I have a lot of boxes lol🤣 )

No problem! I appreciate the help!! & not always, I pretty much just kept any tool in there that I did not need & would grab them as needed! So for the most part they would just remain in the box unless I needed it for something c:

Can you give us more details of this missing tools issue? If you can walk us through your day (waking up, doing activities, until end of day, then waking up again and realizing it's missing), that would be great 🙂

Also, if you can share a video or screenshot of the condition of the chest before you go to bed and after waking up, that would also be really helpful! 😉

well. darn. 🤣 No problem! So this started happening for me after the winter festival (the one in the middle of the month with all of the games) and after researching some I found a reddit post saying that after playing the matching game is when they noticed the issue starting, and no one could find a solution besides rolling back their save or starting over (which is why I came here to hopefully get an answer!) I'll give an example of like 2 days when I notice it happens:

Day1: I have my scythe & net in hand, wake up, go to the ocean and spend the day there, nothing unusual happening.
Day 2: Wake up, take all my coffers to the blacksmith to open, and thats when he takes my tools and gives me the option to retrieve them. Any tools in my possession do not get taken/ duplicated, only tools in a box. & it seems it doesn't seem to matter what box or where it is, he just decides its his now. 🤣

waking up, this is what the box/ my inventory looked like. The tools in the bottom right of the chest are duplicates he's given me from the last time I retrieved my tools.

Went to the blacksmith immediately just to see/test theories (with nothing but the net in my inventory just as is from picture 1) and this is the prompt I got about retrieving missing tools.

& this is what my inventory/ the box with tools looked like after retrieving tools from him. which I see he claimed he had my silver scythe but he did not and gave me a duplicate.

Which in the save I sent, I think I tossed the duplicates or moved them, I can't even remember at this moment but this was exactly what happened when I was just testing to see if changing boxes did anything!

When you mentioned many people had an issue after playing matching games and their tools were missing, this issue only happens on Xbox PC Game Pass 🙂 and we have released a new feature to fix this issue, which is to locate your tools in the blacksmith. This feature can help you search all tools that you don't bring in the inventory when you go to the blacksmith, and put them in your inventory right away 😉

Absolutely! I appreciate the help so much! & aah I see, so does not apply to me. After that festival is when it started occurring, I had not had that issue prior.

And if you do have all of your tools in your chest then go to the blacksmith to retrieve them, then it's not missing. It's just teleported to your inventory!

As for this one, I'll notify the teams about this duplicated items from retrieving tools from blacksmith 😉

ohh I see. So should I just ignore that if they aren't actually missing? I haven't even thought to test not grabbing them and going back to the box to check

Yes! 😄 This "retrieve tools" option isn't only for missing tools, but in a way, it's also a shortcut if you need your tools but don't want to go to your farm to grab them, you can just ask Pablo to poof your tools to your inventory 👀 It's also to help players who forgot where did they put their tools because of many chests that they have 😆

BAHAHA omg you are so right, I feel so dumb right now I had no idea that was a thing 👁️👄👁️ I'm assuming that was a more recent addition because I don't remember it being there until I noticed it recently & thought he was just snatching my tools. Well. I so appreciate the help & sorry for all that confusion! BAHAH I'm glad to point out the duplicating thing though, so it wasn't all a waste 🤣🤣
