I've never had issues with catching or finding the bug to catch until the infamous Wolf Spider. I somehow believe, after wasting a lot of time looking for the creature, that I am on a snipe hunt. Can anyone either confirm or deny the existence of the creature please.
It shows it on the in game computer as being there but when you zoom in, there is no wolf spider shown on the map. I have never used traps before but made an exception in case the beast is not a snipe but all I caught were Stripped Garden "worms" (they are good for fish bait).

I have caught all of the insects but this one I did use traps for because it is super rare and says so on the wiki. The other possible problem is having traps in the wrong place. The traps also show insects caught the day before. I usually use like ten traps throughout an area with ground insect scent and even then it can take several days of checking every day before you get the rare and super rare insects. Where do you have your traps? And it is summer right?
Getting to the end because I wasted so much time looking for the darned thing (about 6 nights). I have the traps set around the fast travel spot at the bottom of the observatory because I read that was how someone else caught it. It was an old post.
I asked the question because I got sent on a side quest for Amalo Earth and spent time looking for one until I found out they were removed from the game. So I was wondering if this was the same kind of thing. I will put traps in some other places but I only have about 3 days left to catch it.
Success! I caught a total of 5 of them in one night on the night of the 26th. One in the forest area that first opens up from temple offerings. Just past the tree arch on the left side going in. One by the Abandoned cabin area in the very far corner. 3 by the fast travel post for the hot springs. I also got a host of caterpillars and other bugs. No scent just traps facing every which-a-way. Still have not seen one in action which I would like to have since I feel traps are cheating but I guess what ever works. I laid those traps at 19:30 hours too.
Yeah I think some are just too rare if you ward to catch them manually it might take multiple years of trying. I cheated a lot worse to get the right weather for that annoying red king Arizona That needs wind or rain in the last week of fall. I have four save files since 1.0 and four in early access, most of them progressed to the end of year 2 and the only time I got the right weather in that week was cheating. But I was determined to make a save file to date Semeru and explore all the 1.1 content and I didn't want to play a whole entire year or sleep through a year just to have to hope you get rain or wind in the last week of fall.
Use Traps
Just put them out go about your business and you will get them when weather is right I littered the whole island with crawling and flying traps especially in the deep forest where a few rarer insects are but alot you can get by the lake too. Use the computer to help you track what insects are avilable or the wiki but they do exist
its offical they dont exist i used sturdy computer too and like it says its there but its not... beezkneez I am not understanding where the spider is based on your description i am highly confused & frustrated with this guy
It is mix forest (hard wood area that unlocks with offerings), low forest (near cavern), hot spring and vineyard. The problem is it's only at night in summer and it's super rare. I recommend using like ten traps with insect scent and emptying traps once a day for like 4 days and you should get it even with terrible rng.
