Selling at a higher price, giving you double mayonnaise/ or cheese. Yes it is for winning the cow and chicken competitions. If you pay attention to your animals the winners will have a medal. Basically just a better item that sells for more. No specific use that I have ever come across.

@hidden lintel I only sold one gold milk & egg to see price value but I keep getting it and have been keeping them now as maybe is good later in the game I’m not sure

So, you get golden items (milk or egg) when that particular animal wins in the Animal Festival! Rebekah covered the benefits. I don't believe it's even necessary for the Legendary Farmer achievement but I could be wrong!

In 1.0 golden animal products are not In the journal to be counted. I don't know if that will change in the 1.1 update

The legendary farmer achievement I think is gained from shipping all items in the produce, caught and found categories in the jouenal, there is also operation trophy rancher for shipping all animal products. I don't know if golden animal products are included in either of those. But that's only if you care about achievements. You will get more every day for the rest of that save file. I guess they could be used for the harvest festival at osmium quality but more expensive animals give you a higher prices item anyway.

iirc it is required for the legendary farmer -- both the normal size and large variant. it's just a way of getting double the artisan goods/more money in general since your animal won something
