OKAY so i dont know if im not understanding the fishing mechanic at all or if im doing something wrong and desperately need help. Every single time theres a fish my line breaks, without fail, even when i dont click anything. At first I thought it was that I needed to upgrade my fishing rod but even then its not helping AT ALL! I understand reeling too much can break the line but, again, the fish just goes ham and breaks the line even when I dont reel it in. Can someone please tell me what im doing wrong 😭

My method is to tap the button while the fish is fighting to keep the bar from falling too quickly and stop when the stress on the line starts getting too high, let it drop down a little and start tapping again.
Then when the fish stops I reel it in using long taps so I don't get caught off guard when it starts fighting again.
I've caught some big fish with just the normal rod doing it this way.

Also make sure you aren't accidentally cutting the line (right-click on mouse). I've done that a few times.

Just tap the mouse button and don't let the zig zaggy line fill the line. Stop tapping when it gets too long and red. If you don't tap at all the fish will stretch the fishing rod too far and it will break. Unless you have a bug of some sort. Upgrading the fishing pole does make it stronger so you can pull more before the tension gets too much. At least that is how it should work. You could also search Coral Island Fishing on Youtube and you will find videos of other people doing it that should show you if you are experiencing a bug or doing it wrong.

Of course if you got a legend fish on the line with the beginner pole those tips arent going to help because it will snap in seconds.

Essentially you will hear and there is a tension meter (the wavy line) like Rebekah said the idea is to stop the tension from dropping to 0 while stopping it getting to 100. When the fish is struggling its a case of holding the button down til the meter is close to full and letting go so it drops to near zero and pushing the button again. It drops fairly fast so you will do this 2-3 times per time the fish fights. I like to grow it up to just as it reaches the checkmark and drop it so its down to 1-2 bumps on the waveline.

When the fish stops fighting let the tension drop down to the 1-2 bumps before pushing the button, practice will give you an idea of how long to hold down for and you will learn to stop just before the fish starts to fight. It will only be a few seconds each time but you should be able to pull the fish across that bar a bit, just pay attention to the waveline.

In MHO, a gold rod should allow you to catch fish pretty easy, A bronze rod is still a big challenge. It seems like the fishing spot to train on is at the river/pool right of the mine. The game is kind of mean to give the rod at the beach where the fishing can be hardest. With an osmium rod, you shouldn't need "training".
