Hi guys, How can I get hard wood? Guides online advise you need a gold axe to chop fallen tree trunks, but in order to get a gold axe, you need to have 5 hard wood for the upgrade.
Am I missing something obvious? I'm now stuck with silver tools until I can figure out this issue.

you just need silver tools for chopping down hardwood outside farm plot, and gold for the one that is inside farm plot. you can also use explosive to kaboom away the big logs & stone in farm plot

Sadly, my town rank is currently very low (E I believe). I am new to "cozy" games and am still getting to grips with the game (currently at Year 1, Summer 20) so progress is very slow.

i believe the ammount of hardwood you get from blowing up hardwood in farm plot is enough to upgrade 2 tools into osmium

Progress in this game can be slow. There’s no time limit on main quests and you can take your time. Prioritize donating items to the altars and you will soon unlock the mid Forest that lets you get hardwood every day.
