Talking to mermaids?

I don't have a picture for it but it's as simple as when I'm diving ||(I have the language barrier unlocked) || I can't talk to the mermaids. It doesnt have the talk button in the bottom right corner, I try to click to talk anyways and there just no chatting. Idk how I'm supposed to be friends with them if the game won't let me talk to them 😦

Finished healing the coral tree, and I'm on the windows xbox app version

So, playing on my pc just through the xbox application
