#Any Word at all about the Switch version?

I went to ask in the comments of the Kickstarter update, but there's already so many people asking. And they are getting angry there's no word at all. I share their frustration in part. I understand that things happen, but... It feels like those of us who selected Switch keys during the backing process are just ignored.

I don't want to switch keys if I don't have to. I selected Switch because I barely use my Switch, and I really wanted more games to play on it. So please... Even an update to tell us what is going on would be appreciated. Even if you can't give us a date for key delivery.

Plus it is more likely that they’ll wait until most, if not all, the updates are out since Nintendo has a reputation for having issues with game updates

It also takes quite a while to get through all the hoops in order for Nintendo to put things up in their Switch store. My guess is they’ve started the process but are waiting until 1.1 launches to move with more earnest. More news about the Switch 2 could definitely also be affecting things, in case they’ll need to redo graphics or code to make sure it functions on both devices.

tldr; I’m hoping no news is good news here.

I'm honestly waiting on the Switch release to play...I have the game on PC through Steam, but Switch is my primary gaming mode.

honestly im really disappointed we didnt have more time to get a different key if it was going to take this long and us still not even have a date for the switch release. as a backer it feels like a scam to watch everyone else play a game you backed and havent even gotten to play this late after release. we're already almost half way through 2024 and all we've heard is that its sometime this year maybe

Game dev for Switch is nothing like any other game dev. They have even more strict rules for actually getting your game on it. Plus, it’s so much less powerful so everything has to be optimized differently. It’s much easier to port a finished and updated game than it is to keep having to go back and revise everything. They are working on it. It is coming. They aren’t scamming you. It’s just the way game dev works.

I just feel like they didn't advertise it honestly. I wouldn't have chosen switch for my key if they had been honest about that process and the potential delays up front.

I get that switch can take a while to port over but this is getting ridiculous that we aren’t even getting an eta. My hype is completely dead for this game since I’m not even getting an acknowledgment of any kind of time frame. Very sad

It's possible it's being delayed due to the updated Switch bound for release in the coming year or so. I can see them putting off subpar optimization to make sure it can run well on the newer Switch, but Nintendo may be less than willing to give out specifics on the new system specs. It's hard to say. I do agree that this dev team is not as vocal with this discord as I've seen devs of other games. Could be a language barrier. I hope for a speedy process, though I can't say that hope is high when it comes to Nintendo.

The idea that they aren’t putting out the switch version that people paid for because of some hypothetical upcoming release of a new Nintendo system sucks. Three years ago there wasn’t any discussion about a sequel switch. I didn’t pay for the game on Switch 2. What if I’m not going to buy one right away or at all? Do I just not get the game I backed? If they had no real plans to put it out on switch then they just used those folks’ backer money with no good intentions on delivering.
I get that people are just looking for hope when wondering about that, but it’s crappy that we have to guess the reasons that we haven’t even gotten a message about what the holdup is and we need to invent reasons to forgive them ahead of time.

They just said in the dev blog that they will discuss it more at a later date and iirc switch releases has always been set for sometime in 2024 in the road maps. We are only 5 months into 2024. Also did yall not see the issues that PS5 and Xbox are having. Do you really think that the switch can run the game right now when higher powered systems are having issues. I get that yall are upset because you backed for switch but I personally would rather wait for a more stable version and possibly multi-player on releases then what has been happening now. It's not a matter of if you get a Switch 2 or not it's a matter of if they release a new one then the game has to run on both.

the issue with this is i literally tried to get a pc key for steam instead and was told it was too late. the timeframe for getting a different key was too small for a project that was backed literally years ago and ppl cant reasonably be 100% up to date on checking every email update on. even if the game cant come out of switch yet giving backers more options or at least information on whats going on isnt an unreasonable request. im sorry but this whole this has seriously impacted my opinion of this game which is a shame bc i was really looking forward to it. every update we've been waiting and waiting for updates and only gotten anything after complaining and even then the only info we have is "it will be out this year" without even an estimated month.

i have no intention of attacking the devs and i understand stuff happens but it still doesnt feel very nice when switch key backers have been waiting and waiting and waiting while everyone else gets to play the game and we dont even have an estimate for the month it will be out or an explanation of the reasons holding everything up. its insulting to be talked down to and told that we should just shut up and keep waiting and not express any disappointment when other players have been getting to play for months and they are getting events and updates while we cant play at all.

the biggest frustration with this has not been the actual delay on the switch release but rather the fact that it feels like we have been forgotten bc im not seeing any alternate solutions or more transparency being offered. communication goes a long way and all we've gotten is one sentence at telling us to keep waiting.

I really truly hope that the reason isn't because of a new version of switch coming out. That would be extremely unfair, as I don't know if/when I would even get one.

Also, just a confirmation that it'll still be available on the regular switch would be nice. Also, I really hope they will still let us get the extra add ons. I got the mythical pet add on, and I'll be bummed if I don't get it.

Will the Switch even be able to handle this game tbh? It seems alot graphically. I am wishing I chose playstation right about now cos I'm in the same boat waiting and they wouldn't let you swap your key from Switch to another console(or I was too late? I cant remember). And my laptop cannot handle CI. I tried when it was alpha access 😅. Its probably good I keep forgetting about it but man... this is the longest wait for a kickstarter game I've had.

Once again, a dev update with zero mention of Switch.
To be clear, I know it's really tough to get games on Switch, and they want it to be as complete as possible when they do so. That's fine. I don't expect it to be out yet. But it would be nice to see some proof of life in just a single "The Switch version is still in production." at the end of the update.

It's kinda upsetting that Coral Island is for sale on Steam for a much cheaper price than I paid to back it for Switch (I got two copies!!)... And yet no Switch release yet lol.

isn't that generally how ports go though? I mean I've seen plenty of games have sales on one platform while they have full price preorders going for a port to a different one. I think that's fairly standard since porting a game it a whole separate chunk of development work

well yeah, but just because they were on the same campaign doesn't change that they're different products. it's been months since the steam release & backers for it got access long before the sale. it's not like people can go preorder the switch version for less than backers paid

Once game does release on switch, it will have full game all updates at time of release

& consoles get major updates released same time PC does

Has anyone else waiting for the switch version had theirs changed to a steam key? I just checked my pledge and under reward it now says Coral Island Steam Key. I did not request this and got no notice that it was happening!

on Kickstarter or on Backerkit? My switch key is still listed on Backerkit, and that should be the "official" selection.

it's listed as steam on Kickstarter, but I'm pretty sure it has always been that way. IIRC they only did the actual platform selections through backerkit after the campaign wrapped. (since other platforms were stretch goals & therefore not included in initial rewards listings)

Backerkit still says switch which is a small relief I suppose, but Kickstarter hasn’t always said switch. Years back when they mailed the codes for the farmer’s outfit they mailed me a steam code and I and others in the comments had to check if we picked the wrong selection and it showed Switch then.

oof, that's really weird. I've run kickstarters before and AFAIK the platform hard locks reward tier details once someone has backed it, so I've got no idea how it managed to change there. maybe their policy changed, or it's some kind of bug?

in general I would trust the Backerkit details over the Kickstarter, since that's more recent and where the team should be pulling fulfillment data from. but if you want to be sure, you can always email support to confirm your order details just in case

I have backed multiple other game kickstarters for switch and even if haven't gotten my copy for some of those games yet, the developers are VERY open about any troubles they're having and it makes me much more understanding of the situation. This just feels like blatant disregard of switch backers anf that they've taken our money and ran

People are frustrated and feel ignored. THATS the problem. And until they give switch backers a REAL update those feelings will continue to fester and grow and it is completely justified because the lack of acknowledge is ridiculous

I mean, they have said exactly that, repeatedly.

Since the October status update (which was: "Coral Island is targeting a 2024 launch for Nintendo Switch. We need more time to ensure the playing experience is as best as possible"), they've made several responses to questions on here reaffirming that info, saying development is ongoing, still targeting 2024 release, etc.
They included this in the April update as well: "Switch backers: we're still in the game development process and going strong. We don't have any updates to share yet, but we'll keep you informed as soon as we have more to share!"
They also repeated that statement in response to KS comments about Switch several times, most recently, this just 6hrs ago: "As we write in our April 2024 update, we're still in the game development process and going strong. We don't have any new updates to share just yet, but rest assured, we'll keep you posted as soon as there's more to announce."

Like, I understand wishing for more info, I understand being frustrated at having to wait. But it's not right to say they're ignoring us when they have been continuously repeating that they're working on it & there's nothing more they can share yet, or to say that they've "taken our money and ran" when they are still actively developing the game & releasing updates. I'm really trying to be as kind & understanding as I can here but those statements are just plain untrue.

Clearly we are just going to continue to disagree about this situation. I never said they actually took the money and ran jusy that it felt like it. I know what they said in rhe April update. Buy it is July and they could've had the decency to repeat that in the actual update instead of the comments. I am allowed to be frustrated and disappointed and nothing you say will change that because this is MY experience with the game so far and it hasn't been a good one.

... I'm sorry if I gave the impression that you shouldn't be able to feel the way you feel about it - I may have been unclear but I tried to express the exact opposite. I didn't call you rude or tell you that you have to be okay with the situation, because like I said I get being frustrated.

All I have done is try to provide additional context (since this is a questions channel where people generally come looking for that) and direct you to info that contradicts incorrect statements/assumptions (since again, this is a place people come looking for information). I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm just trying to give you & others who may check here more info on the topic above.

I think maybe you are just looking for a place to vent? Which is fair enough, but it might work out better to specify that upfront, especially when posting in a place intended for Q&A
