I’m having such a hard time catching the Arapaima. It’s snowing, I’m in the river forest area. Is it a specific time to catch it?

No, but it's a rare fish. I've found it helps to make sure you eat something that boosts fishing proficiency, and have the best fishing rod you can.

I’ve caught a couple up in the area near Ben’s caravan.

I got several in that Forrest River area in winter while snowing. What level rod do you have (what material is it upgraded to) and what level are you in Fishing? My fishing rod is Gold and I think I’m level 7 or 8. I read somewhere that this makes a difference, but have not confirmed.

I have a silver fishing rod. I was fishing near the caverns.

Try up by Ben’s caravan. Go to the wall to the right of the waterfalls.

the best I thing I did for fishing is getting the computer with the fishing chip from the lab. I finally got multiple rare and legendary fish the next day after getting it! For Arapaima, wait till winter when it’s snowing then go to the waterfalls next to the cave. Make sure your fishing rod is upgraded and attached with large bait, worked for me!

You don’t need a upgraded fishing rod but you need the large bait to catch it

I've had very bad luck using the bait and have never caught any rare or better fish with it

You can catch it without large bait, I didn't use any bait to catch mine
