Did you get the dive suit from Ling and have you completed one altar bundle? If so, you should now be able to enter the merfolk kingdom.

@warm raptor yep, I've talked to Ling already and have completed more than 1 bundle which is why im confused on why all the entrances to the next area is locked behind the vines
they're highlighted in gray but i can't even get to them lol

Did you get the new dive suite from Ling (needs some ingame days)? At some point (don't quite recognize when) you need to swim in front of one root and it then disappears
