#Does shaking pine, maple, and oak trees actually drop anything?

I've tried shaking and kicking lots of these trees up to 10 times each but never got anything out of it. Bugged, incomplete, actually pointless, or does it require something else to work?

Sometimes it can drop its seeds, but not always.
