Summer day 11 of year 2
Went to bed at end of day and it told me I earned new skill point etc
Pressed A, it crashed
Restarted and now there is no existing save file. Only an option to start a new game.

I might cry

To the best of my ability recalling what I did that day in case it matters was: deal with animals, manual harvest some crops and get others from machines, make a bunch of jam, drop off pickaxe for upgrade to osmium, retrieve bug from trap, manually catch a few others, pick some flowers, and put a bunch of stuff in the sell bin at the end of the day.

It still shows several MB of data in the file info thing in XBOX so my file isn't GONE gone, just the game isn't seeing it now? How do I get it back?

This is now the 3rd person I've seen say they have lost game files and no response given!?!?! People are literally putting days of their lives into this just to be met with crashes and losing all their progress and no response is given. I can't even see the threads anymore.

Corrupted save files are a really big issue and I just wish the Devs would acknowledge this as a known bug for Xbox S, to help inform people to avoid that version of the game if losing a save will upset you. Same goes for the Xbox Cloud version, which I'm sure is the same client as Xbox S.

I genuinely hope they will add manual save feature so we could create more than one save to avoid this issue. Feel sorry for you bro

@woeful anchor i fully understand my save is now gone too. Around the same time as yours year 2 cant remember the day other than it was the day before the animal show. The days ive lost now and for what.. they need to have a system in place for a 3 day backup saves so if this happens you can just load in a older save

@woeful anchor i kinda lost all faith in the dev team as all we will get is an automatic response. I tired to recover the dave by deleting my console save and re load from cloud but no luck what so ever. so we had the same crash at the same time. I know this is a overload crash cause i belive the game is overloading itself with data.

The devs has been informed about the issue and we're currently investigating this. Because Xbox uses a cloud system, we are still looking for a solution to be able to access save files on the cloud system 🙇‍♀️

@velvet musk do you have an estimate of when they expect to get back to me about whether it is possible to recover my save file? Eg is someone looking at this today or is it in the next sprint or???

Considering I was on day 11 of summer 2, that means I’ve completed (28x5) + 11 = 151 game days, at about a half hour each so 75 hours of game play. I’m rather unlikely to start over again if it can’t be recovered.

Don't expect a very prompt response. They very much rushed this release and that response you got was the same copy and paste "oops" message they are giving people that lose their files. And they are heading out for the holidays. And they aren't warning xbox players that these crashes are causing them to lose the save files.. all we have got is the automated responses... I'm sorry you had put so much work into you save to just lose it ;~;

Exactly they are gonna lose the console base.... it is very sad. Like quit pushing all the new stuff you wanna add in our faces and be upfront as to why what you already have out is very visibly broken and you aren't doing anything to actually be upfront on the fact that the game is unplayable.

Its the not being human with us i hate the most. I get that mistakes happen but, 1 dont release a "base game" in this state ,2 dont be open or speak to the players who both paid and play the game ,3 stop the dlc and fix the main issues as i can tell them we wont be here for much longer. I really like this game but spend more time on discord talking about the issues with the game rather than playing it. I dont have alot of time to play games as im both a carer and a dad. Stairway sort this mess out, i hope your holidays was nice and all but you have a lot of work to do

Exactly, no shade for enjoying the holiday. But ya them focusing on what they can add to the game rather then making the base game work is ridiculous. How can you expect people to want to continue to play your game and make it to the new content if the base game doesn't work. Like where's the logic there. Your games overloading it's self with Data so add more data with no fix?!? Please make it make sense

@velvet musk Any update? It's been over three weeks since I reported this issue (and many many other people have had the same problem) and still no response about how to recover our save files.

Some users have reported success with uninstalling & reinstalling the game but that didn't work for me. I don't want to try too many things without guidance from the devs in case I COULD have recovered it if only I hadn't done XYZ and now cannot.

I recognize it was Christmas last week but I imagine that people were at work the week before Christmas, and this week... and if corrupted save files alienating an entire console type's worth of players aren't your highest priority, I can't imagine what would be higher.

We deserve a meaningful update. If there isn't info to share yet, there should be a timeline shared to when we will have info.

I tried everything I could think of to get the game to recognize my save file (cleared local save from Xbox, went to my pc and opened it on gamepass there, etc), nothing worked. I ended up just starting over...only to encounter this same error about 8 more times (as of today). If I open the game (and therefore allow it to synch to the cloud, it will always make me start a new game, as my saves are not showing in-game but do show under the Xbox data for the game.) The only thing that has worked for me is to follow these steps: 1)When game crashes during a save, and takes you to Xbox home screen, immediately goto My Games and delete the game. 2) After game deletion is finished, immediately restart the Xbox. 3)Once back to the Xbox Homescreen, re-install the game. 4) once game is re-installed, proceed to play as normal (game saves have been there.) Again, this method has only worked if I haven't tried to open the game again after it has crashed while saving, due to the game synching to the cloud upon opening. If you have already opened the game after it has crashed while saving, I believe your save is now registered as corrupted, on both the Xbox itself and gamepass (I say on gamepass, because when I tried to open the game on GP after seeing the missing save on Xbox, I received a GDK error and the game wouldn't even progress past the first startup screen until I deleted all data from the Xbox.) This has been a huge P.I.T.A to say the least. However, I've been able to play my most recent save (through 4 crashes while saving, and have a working theory on when it will happen. As for me, I know that a crash while saving is going to happen if I lose sound for my animals and in particular the bells outside their habitats). This game save is 64hrs in, and about to be year three...despite all the "normal" crashes (Harvest Festival--crashed 6 times, until I finally just skipped that festival, Cherry Blossom festival--crashed three times, before I skipped it, and the trivia contest during the Beach Festival), and now the game save crashes.

Hi everyone. We've released a new hotfix for the Xbox Series a few days ago. You should get a prompt to load your backup save file if you experience missing save file previously. @velvet musk I was so excited to read this -- but I didn't have any luck. I had tried a few things previously so maybe I'm SOL. I had tried starting a new save and tried to get it to crash (in hopes it would offer to restore my backup -- but that never happened) and then I uninstalled and reinstalled the game a couple of times, also with no luck.

So when I saw that you have the hotfix released, I reinstalled the game, and it has my secondary new save -- but no mention of my previous save file.

If you didn’t get the prompt to load your old save then your old save is gone forever.

@velvet musk Even if there isn't a way in-game to prompt to restore it, instructions on how to do it manually would be helpful. I don't know which cloud it saves in to go see if it's something I could do myself. The longer the time passes, the less likely it is that the backup will still be present.

I just got my save file back!
I turned on the “show backup” option in the settings menu.
Started a new game and after making my character and loaded into the game I went back to the menu.
Pressed “load game” and “show backups” in the left corner of the screen and my old save file was back 😊

Just wanted to chime in here, because this helped me a ton! When I saw they added access to backups, I was hoping mine would be there. Just loading from the front menu didn’t work. Loading into my husband’s game file didn’t work. BUT starting a brand new file? My backup was there! Thank you SO much for this!

I was so excited to see this... but no luck for me. When I first lost my save file (December) I tried all the things people had suggested, creating a new save file being one of them. So I still see THAT save file with a couple of days of work in it, but not my real one.

"Greta" is the new one I just created today to enable seeing the backups, and "x" is the one I created in December after losing my real one

I deleted both of those and then created another new one just in case... but it didn't help.
