I've spent at least 10 in-game days looking for the Sunflower Sea Star and it's nowhere to be found. It's currently winter in my game, and I've looked all throughout the areas that they supposedly spawn in but all I'm seeing are anenome, bloodbelly comb jellyfish, red knob starfish, and shiho seahorses. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try using crawler trap on the area where the sea star specifically would spawn. It works for most and even rarer critters too.
Also, according to the guide, Sunflower Sea Star spawns around Spring/Summer. I got one on Summer and its pretty easy to catch.

ohhhh that's what i missed then, i'll wait until the season changes to try looking for it again
