Do u need an osmium fishing rod to catch the rare fish?

not necessarily. I caught a few rare ones with a silver rod but upgraded will make life much easier

Another question sorry, is any size of bait good or does it matter

it matters a lil. honeslty haven't noticed the biggest difference (you definitely attract bigger fish with an upgraded rod)

i tried catching the sturgeon with the bronze rod, it seems impossible. Silver Rod is probably the bare minimum to catch rare fish

I had silver and it worked for sturgeon and hammerhead (one successful hammerhead and the next one failed after 5mins of fighting with it)

I have tried with every rod and caught multiple Sturgeon and similarly difficult fish. I agree that Silver is probably the minimum required to successfully catch them, Bronze didn't seem possible with how much they were able to fight back. Now that my fishing level is higher and I've got an Osmium rod though they're really, really easy to catch.

So from my experience every time I used bait I never caught what I was looking for I’ve caught all the legendary fish without bait
