The Winter 8 "How to" broadcast just said that once fruit plants are grown, you no longer have to water them, but that's not what literally every documentation I can find says. He definitely wasn't referring to fruit trees, there was a clear distinction in the dialogue.

Not 100% sure on this but I'm pretty sure farmer Jeff being an impulsive liar with a drinking problem going through a messy divorce is part of the official canon.
