can't do anything in decor mode

I play on Xbox. And I've noticed that I can't actually do anything when trying to change around furniture and whatnot in decorate mode. I have the hud with commands at the bottom of the screen but there's nothing that shows up in the house part. I'm not there and neither is the furniture or item I'm trying to place.

Also, I have chests placed that I can't move. I've tried breaking them down, but that doesn't do anything. And since I can't do anything in decorate mode I can't move them there either.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug?

For the chests: make sure all objects are out of the chest and its empty. Then you can use your axe and hit it to break it down and move into your inventory 🙂 Hope this helps!

I've actually tried that. It doesn't seem to work for some reason.
I'm hesitant to put my pet bed down anywhere because I don't want to be married to that location if I can't move it
