does the auto chest only collect? or can you put brewing products in so it will distribute to the machines?

If you put aging barrel next to it, it will put finished products on the barrel if applicable.

if you want to- you can mix and match like that (as far as i know. i wasn't in beta and i haven't unlocked them yet since update)

basically the auto chests are supposed to fill-- and keep full-- their applicable machines- so if you have a chest and then a mayo machine and a cheese press attached to it- it'll put the eggs in the mayo and the milk into the press (or it should)
