Coral Island Backup Guide - Xbox Game Pass

In the following guide you will learn how to load a backup in the Xbox Game Pass version of Coral Island. This may be necessary if you, for example, encounter a bug that deletes tools or otherwise corrupts your save.

  1. Press the Windows key and “R” on your keyboard at the same time. A small window will open in the bottom left corner of your screen. In this you now enter “AppData” and press Enter.

  2. In the “AppData” folder, which now opens, navigate through the folders as follows:

AppData -> Local -> Packages -> HumbleBundle_CoralIsland... -> SystemAppData

IMPORTANT: Before you continue, be sure to make a copy of the “wgs” folder and store it somewhere, for example on your desktop. This way you can be sure that you don't make the situation worse and possibly destroy the save file completely.

  1. Now open the “wgs” folder. Inside there is another folder that consists of lots of numbers (especially 0s). We open this too.

This is probably where the shock sets in. Many folders appear with many different combinations of numbers and letters. Before you continue here, it's best to create another new, empty folder on the desktop and open it.

  1. Sort the files in the folder by date modified.

  2. Now mark the first 10 files in the folder in which the many number combinations are. Move this (not copy it!) to the newly created empty folder on the desktop.

  3. Now open the game. If no save game shows up when you try to load the save file, you are doing everything right. This means that your save is in one of the files you just pulled out.

  4. Close the game. Drag one of the removed files back to the folder where you previously removed it. Write down the first 4 numbers/letters of the folder you are moving.

  5. Now restart the game. If your save appears again, your current save will be in the folder that you just moved back. If your save does not appear again, please go back to step 7 and repeat it with a different folder. Always write down the name of the current folder that you moved back until your save appears again.

  6. As soon as you know which folder contains your save game, sort your removed files again according to the modification date so that the backup you load is not too old. Now open a folder that is 2-3 spots below the folder that contains your saved game. Inside there should be a file with a long code and a “container” file. Leave the “container” file alone!

  7. Now go back to the folder that contains your current save game. There is also a file with a long numerical code. Remember what it's name is and paste the copied file from the other folder.

  8. Now click on “Rename” for the file that was already in the folder (the one whose name you should remember) and copy the entire name of the file. Then you delete it.

  9. Rename the inserted file and give it the name you just copied.

  10. Load your save game. In the best case scenario, you have only been set back 1-2 days.

If this didn't work, go back to step 9 and try again with a folder further down.

The way this backup load works is that it tricks the game into thinking the backup save file you inserted and renamed is the current save file. If everything goes correctly, the backup file will be loaded like any normal save.

Since I play the Steam version of the game myself, unfortunately I can't create a video tutorial for it, otherwise I would. The guide is complicated, but unfortunately so is restoring the savevia Gamepass.

Note: This solution ONLY works for the Gamepass version! Loading a backup from the Steam version is a lot different and luckily a lot easier. Find the Guide to load a backup from the Steam version here: https://discord.com/channels/623097219628662784/1179498806367236217
