How exactly do Insect traps work? I assume u leave them on the ground and insects eventually get caught? Does it matter where u place them? Do they catch more than one insect? Do you have to use bait?

From my experience in early access,
- it can only catch one at a time. You'd have to take the caught insect before it catches another one.
- You don't have to put bait (and I actually found it was a waste of bait coz sometimes it catches a common quality/rarity insect instead of a higher quality or rarity)
- As for where to place them, best put them in the spots where insects commonly spawn. Also they can't be placed in the town areas even if some insects spawn there.
- And for frequency of catch, iirc it's not guaranteed to catch anything every single day. But if you just come back from time to time, you can get some. The already caught insects won't disappear after a few days (i believe)
Again, this is all from my early access experience so I'm not sure if everything is still true after 1.0 😅

I usually put my insect ground & flying traps in the forest area, beach & town areas. It has helped me catch hard to catch bugs like tiger beetle & those legendary butterflies. I usually put bait in them i find that insects get caught in it faster than without bait.

I would look up what bugs are need for the altars and find out where they spawn. Many bugs are confined to a specific part in the map. So if you put a trap on the forest and you’re trying to catch a tarantula and black widow, you will never catch them
