In the cavern I often see gold coins on the floor (like in the image) are these collectuble or anything or just flavour?

I thought the same thing. I also had no idea about the red star spots on the mine floor either. Till i seen a youtube vid. But if you hit them with the pickaxe they spread n you keep hitting them until you end with a few extra ores
