The merit points you can check at the Towne Hall, in the building to the right of the museum. At the very back, you should be able to check your points there after you've been prompt on a scene about the Community Board.

Ranking up the town :
Tips
- To rank up the town, you can do so by :
- cleaning the ocean, activate all the solar orb on all area
- complete the offerings of altars (its various, you need to do fishing and insect catching, planting crops etc)
- by completing the offering, you'd gain the acces to more area like middle forest, you can collect hardwood there
- donating to the museum :
- artifact : get them from coffers by cleaning the trash on the ocean
- gems : you can get gems from opening geode at the blacksmith ( geode can be gotten by breaking stones, on the mine especially)
- fossil : opening fossil nodes, get them by breaking stone on the mine or cleaning trash at the ocean ( you need to complete the museum quest story after donating 50 items )
- donating bugs, critter, and fish
- a little tips : set the game-time speed to 50% so you'd have more time to roam around the island and collect all the forageabbles, catching the bugs, and fishing
- enchant your tools (especially sychete and pickaxe) with "rare drop" enchantment, it will boost your chance to get coffer, geodes, and fossil nodes
