I am having trouble planting saplings. I know they require a 3x3 untilled area. Can anyone take a look at this image and give insight on what I'm doing wrong?

Oh my God they need 3 spaces of clearance on EACH side? That's not 3x3 that is 7x7.
Or am I still misunderstanding

I think? I can show you mine later I think I have two full spaces on mine but I’m not at the computer at the moment

Those saplings look to be at the center of 3x3 grids

I had to use the architect desk to get them on top of the grass, but I just checked the picture and there’s two full spaces between them on every side
So if you cleared out the sprinkler and crops on the right of where you want to plant your sapling it should work
No need to water them though

So...a 5x5 grid. Ok. The tooltip for the sapling itself says "The surrounding 8 tiles must be empty" which apparently is either correct (and its bugged/broken) or incorrect (in which case the tooltip should be changed so its not lying to me LOL)
the architect table is an interesting idea though. maybe I can just plant them somewhere and move them where I want and they'll still grow.
