Feel like I’m barely breaking even after spring with upgrades to tools. Not sure what my focus should be for summer. But I’d like some cash lot upgrade to barn ect

So far in my experience you'll have a lot of luck with farming, try to unlock crops that just keep growing after being harvested. It's more bang for your buck. Until then just grow whatever you want, I'd recommend a mix so you can finish a lot of errands and build up your townie relationships
Fishing is a good method too though you won't get the bonus of having stuff ready for errands.
Try to farm compost to make fertilizer- don't underestimate fertilizer. Use it to make your crops higher quality so they sell for more.
Early upgrades are expensive, don't be super disheartened.

Thanks for the quality reply, so far been growing sugarcane but wasn’t sure how optimized that was vs other crops. At least it yields more frequently it seems
