It’s my first time playing so I am a bit confused here. I’ve reached to the point where you first meet the merfolk and is the dialogue suppose to be not understandable?
For me while playing the two of them talked perfectly in English and acted if I should have not understand them. Also Ling mentioned about making something so I can understand merfolk language but they talked perfectly fine for me?

Yes, your character doesn't understand them in that scene but they made it so you the player can.
