Three times now, when I have selected “Quit to Desktop”, it has caused my entire computer to freeze, with the only course of action being to hold the power button down and force the computer to restart. Since this causes my entire computer to freeze, I don’t even get a crash report, so I can’t attach that (I checked to make sure it wasn’t there). I never had this happen while playing during early release, yesterday was the only time it has happened. Please let me know if there is any additional information you need.
#Computer freezes/crashes when selecting “Quit to Desktop”

Hi @sly sandal. Thank you for the report. May I ask which platform you’re currently playing (Steam PC/Xbox Game Pass)? 🙂
Could you please describe what you were doing in-game just before the crash occurred? 🙂
Absolutely! I’m playing on Steam PC. I finished speaking to townsfolk, ran back to my farm and cleared some rocks and wood, then went to bed shortly before midnight in-game. After the game saved and the new day started, I hit escape and selected the option “Quit to Desktop”. And instead of quitting the game, everything froze, my whole computer, for roughly 15 minutes before I finally manually restarted it. Basically that same thing has happened 3 times now, with roughly the same sequence of events happening right before it.
It’s still happening today as well. Every single time I’ve tried to “Quit to Desktop” it completely crashes my whole computer. It’s basically making me have to choose between playing the game or potentially ruining my brand new computer by doing repeated forced restarts 😅
One last update for you! I figured out how to close the game without it causing my computer to crash. I have to alt + tab out to my desktop, then right click on the Coral Island icon on my task bar, and select “close program”. This kills Coral Island, and doesn’t cause my computer to crash. The crash only happens if I try to quit the game from the in-game menu. Just wanted to let you know! 😊
Unfortunately, it now seems that ANY way that I close the game causes my computer to crash. I just tested it twice with the method that was working on the 17th, and that method no longer works. Closing the game in any manner now causes my computer to crash. Again, just wanted to give an update.
I have the same problem and soon I'm going to ruin my computer by forcing it to shut down because of this game 😦
Yes, exactly! I’ve had to stop playing unfortunately; my computer is brand new and I don’t want to ruin it 😅
I'm going to do the same, because if it breaks, we'll be at a loss because the game's support won't give us a new computer.
Unfortunately I had to stop playing until this problem that seems to have no solution is fixed.
Yep, exactly! It really sucks 😞
Especially because it’s definitely a new problem that only started happening with the 1.0 release. Never had this happen during beta, and I played over 500 hours up until 1.0 released.
many people have this problem and so far there is no position from the developers
Honestly, I’m glad to hear it’s not just me having the issue, as I figure that means it’s more likely to get fixed at some point. But it would be nice to have some kind of update, so at least we know it’s being worked on.
Yes, I hope they take a position as soon as possible, and bring an update to fix this
Agreed! 🤞
Hi @sly sandal. Thank you for keeping us updated. May I ask for your device’s specifications details (CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD/SSD etc.)? 🙂
Hi! May I ask for your device’s specifications details (CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD/SSD etc.)? 🙂
Absolutely! I have a laptop with an Intel Core i9-13900HX, Nvidia RTX 4060 w/ 8GB GDDR6, 32GB DDR5 4800MHz RAM, 1TB SSD. Let me know if there are any other details that would help!
Also, at least today anyways, using task manager to kill the Coral Island process appears to do so without causing my computer to crash. Or at least, it has successfully done so twice now. I hesitate to say it's a for sure workaround, since the other method I found worked ok for a couple times, and then did not work the next few times.
I can't even close the game through the task manager, the game is freezing and freezing my computer, I have to force it to shut down.
observation so the coral island game this happens.
I play other heavier games like warzone, battlefield and this doesn't happen with other games.
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor 3.40 GHz
RAM 32GB DDR4 3200Mhz
SSD M.2 2TB
rtx 3060 Ti
Thank you for the info everyone. I will check this with the teams and get back to you 😉
Hi @sly sandal @wooden atlas. We need additional data. Do you happen to have any recorded video of when the game freeze after clicking quit to desktop? 🙂
I don't, as it wouldn't save since the laptop freezes/crashes. However, I could record a video of my laptop screen using my phone if that would work for you?
Yes, it's alright with us. The visual information will help us analyze and resolve the problem 😉
For sure! I'll get that for you in just a bit when I'm at my computer again!
No problem! Feel free to take your time. Whenever you get the chance, just give us the update 🙂
