Console backer codes: when do we get them?

I’ve been trying to keep an eye out but I haven’t seen any official word yet. Does anyone know when backers will get codes for the console (PS5 in my case) version of the game? I’d hoped to have it downloaded and ready to go by the time the game launches in a couple hours.

Think about the volume of people who backed the kickstarter. It took several weeks for everyone to get their early access codes, and that was only on Steam 😅 Give it some time and have patience.

Also, don't forget you might need to check backerkit directly rather than wait for an email

Sorry, but that's a terrible answer. When you pay for something ahead of time, you expect to get it the day it launches. That's poor planning to not have the keys available for the backers.

I am not officially affiliated with Stairway, so my answer is not an official one. However, I can say with confidence that things are rarely so simple. Even when the game was promised to drop an hour ago, it took several minutes across several platforms for it to be available for everyone. It's down to Sony, XBOX, Steam, Humble Bundle, Stairway, and Backerkit to distribute all those keys and make the game available on their respective platforms. That's a lot of moving parts already, and Microsoft already proved to us in the past that they don't care much to deliver Coral Island updates on time.

You're deflecting the blame. This date has been known for a long time and steps should have been taken with partners to ensure the keys were distributed on time. Lack of planning does not mean an emergency for the partners.

No, I appreciate it. The trend I'm seeing is that if you didn't complete the survey or were never sent it in the first place, chances are you didn't receive your copy of the game for the PS5 today. There also seems to cases where even if you complete the survey on time, not only were there cases where the code still wasn't received today, but there some who didn't get extra DLC codes as well

I've just come to terms that I probably won't be getting my code today. Disappointing, but what can you do.

The only thing that is frustrating, is that there was never mention within the update that if you were playstation backer, that you needed to complete said survey to receive you code today. I just assumed the surveys were for DLC and never gave it a second thought

Looking back the window to complete the survey for the PS5 backers was actually really short too. The email arrived on Nov.4th, two days after Update #68, and backers were only given three days to complete, since it required that survey be complete before November 7th. That's not a lot of time

Yeah. There’s another kickstarter I backed that is almost 3 years over due but they’ve communicated at each step of the way, given all info upfront, been honest about issues and explained them so everything is understanding about the delays. This is just highly frustrating there’s been a lack of communication on a lot of things. Communication is good customer service, keeps everyone informed and prevents most complaints.

If it's anything like the Early Access key distribution, the keys are being distributed in batches. Also the emails got sent wayyyyy after the keys were already given, and some still haven't gotten an email.

So make sure you double check that your key isn't already listed in your Backerkit's Digital Downloads page! If it's not there, please continue to be patient, the team is getting through the requests as fast as they can

Transparency goes a long way. If they just said “hey, sorry guys and gals. We aren’t able to get everyone their keys right away, but are doing everything we can to get them to you asap” would have made a world of difference. The continued silence just proves to me personally that as soon as they got their money they didn’t care. I don’t even have faith this will be resolved when I wake up. Another day, still waiting. Frankly, I’m getting super pissed with absolutely zero communication as to what’s going on.
A simple “here’s the situation, and we’re working on it” is all I’m asking for. I’m super upset that I’m forced to watch by the side lines while even more people are enjoying the game and us backers are screwed over once again. We missed out on early access, and now we’re missing out on the actual game. The developers don’t seem to care. It’s super disheartening and disrespectful to those that believed in the project and wanted it to succeed.

I backed for a steam and playstation code. Steam was switch, but switched. All I've gotten so far is a mythical pets code, but only for steam. (On Backerkit) If they would at least say hey sorry its been delayed for x reason. That'd be something, but this is not cool.

The game wouldn’t exist without the backers regardless of how much you paid them. I can understand it hitting harder if you paid more, but all of us deserve a few answers. I’ve lost all my excitement in this project. Those that have had opportunities to play are making the game sound rough around the edges to say the least. I do wish stairway games the best and I truly hope this game eventually gets good. I’m tired of unfinished games hitting market early. Did they get pushed into releasing the game on a deadline due to investors? No! So why do this. They had all the time they would ever need. I’ve had issues with getting stuff through backerkit in the past but the Kickstarter creators addressed the issue once made aware and kept us in the loop as things progressed. The silence on the issues surrounding this release doesn’t build trust IMO.

I had one Kickstarter where the playstation codes they provided had already been somehow redeemed / invalid and their response was shrug "We only ordered so many keys from Sony, we won't order/pay for anymore. We'll give you a switch copy instead."

Their explanation on email basically boiled down too as an example. They had 5078 backers who wanted a ps code, they only bought a batch of 5000. They'd have to buy another 1000 and be left with 922 extra keys.

The survey for PlayStation players asked what region you wanted you code to be I.e USA, UK that kinda thing. I did the survey and never received anything. The rumor is backerkit might be to blame more than stairway games. Sony is kind of a nightmare to work with. Especially when it is time sensitive or relating to 1000’s of “free game codes” if they have to get new codes it gonna be a minute (week). Other platforms are far easier to work with and that is why I’m assuming Xbox is coming through.

A trend in modern gaming shows that it will eventually be what we hoped for. But that’s not really a good standard. Backers should be first or at least with the rest at launch. Yeah, so hard to say with the little information they have given us. I know when I backed One Step to Eden, we aslo had to select our region for the game, but even then they made it proper KS update. Even then, if backer had missed the window to select their region and version of the game, by default they had to get the Steam version instead

But I don't feel you are far off from the truth. Maybe the team didn't order as many PS5 codes in the first batch as they did steam codes. But what gets me is if the Switch version isn't releasing until next year, why weren't they unable to Switch to PS5 codes? And if you still have steam users who haven't receive their codes either, what the excuse there?

Granted, I will say the number of updates were okay, IMO, since I have backed a few board games campaigns where the amount of updates received were just straight up laughable. I had one campaign that gave us like 5 updates in the span of year. That game still hasn't shipped yet haha. That being said and I hate saying this, they should probably "1.0 release" on PC version first and once they was sorted out, release the console version a month or two later. Because they now they are juggling issues on both PC and console and who knows how long it will take to get proper fixes for both.

Well, I am glad you got a better response.

Why couldn't they have just made a large scale announcement? If they would have said its a region issues but we are recreating the survey to send out and will we get that to you soon. I for one would feel a lot better. Its the lack of clear communication and transparency I find bothersome.

Yeah, I just woke up and noticed the update. On plus side, they finally sent the new survey out and I just completed mine. Unfortunately, my assumptions were true they would receive our code this week. If they are leaving it open until Nov. 26th, we probably would be getting our codes until early next month, and that's being optimistic

Shame too, since I've been on Thanksgiving break since last Wednesday and this would have been great time to veg out and play it. I'll probably have to wait until after finals now

I do hope that by time we get our codes, they would have at least released one major patch for all versions of the game. It would be a drag to wait weeks to get our code for the game to still have some of the same bugs and issues

Also, still seems pretty weird that it took them over a week to send this survey out

Said it before, I will say it again. I am not going to play until either multiplayer comes out or I beat Spirittea (stardew meets Spirited Away) I just don't want my bitter feelings to taint a game I know I will eventually enjoy.

Yeah its what confuses me. its the exact same survey, did they not know that some people didn't fill it out? they had to have an idea of how many codes they ordered and if they didn't order any didn't they find that strange? oh well. Filled out the new survey, but by the time the key comes I will already have my backer key for Roots of Pacha and probably be playing that alongside Sandrock and Spirittea. Stairway dropped the ball big time on this! I seriously think this whole thing has been about money since everyone playing has said the game is still not even complete. Why else would they release an incomplete game?

An update on my current situation:
I’ve apparently ordered the switch version instead the PS5 version, despite not owning a switch. The codes cannot be exchanged as “PS5 orders are locked and being processed”. Not sure how if the survey is still open until Sunday and they’re still gathering data. But hey ho. I’m done with Coral Island.
I sincerely wish those playing have a great time with it!

Wow. Sorry to hear that. I know a lot of people want to change their codes from switch. They should give that as an option. I remember in Oct, PS players had the opportunity to switch to a steam code.

I was gonna finally use this time to buy Stardew Valley but it seems to be unavailable for purchase on the UK playstation store.

Tried to reach out to the discord and reddit communities for the game for help but was met with silence 🤐

Getting console patches sadly takes forever since they need to make a build, test it, send it to console approval people where they then test it. If they approve it great, it gets patched like a week after everything started. If they don't approve it than it all starts again.

That being said, I haven't had the best track record with games I've backed over Kickstarter. I have one game they I flat our never received the code for and another game that was suppose to be finished last month that has basically been delayed until further notice

Seeing how this game launched there does seem more merit in just waiting for the game to get a proper release and patches as opposed to backing early on

Then games on Gamepass also creates a weird space since you have a game you paid separately years ago, only show up on the gamepass library. That happen to three other games I've backed as well

Oof! That's been a healthy minute! 11 years ago I was wrapping up my first year of undergrad lol. The first kickstarter I ever backed was La Mulana 2 back in 2014 and I never received my code for it.

Also backed One Step From Eden, Chinatown, Detective, Chef RPG, and Backpack Hero. Both Eden and BH actually launched pretty smoothly for me. Just a little disappointing that Chef RPG got pushed to next year

Yeah, I saw on Reddit that there was new PS5 patch, which I'm guessing is similar to the one Xbox received recently. Haven't seen any reports of the new patch cause more issues like with the Xbox Series S

I got it on steam since I have a steam deck. I luckily haven’t come across any game breaking bugs, and I’m having fun, but I can’t tell if it’s not living up to expectations due to this release experience or the game itself. I guess time will tell. I think when all it said and done and all of the content is out it will be even better.

I was super excited for it. I didn't even mind the two year delay. I'd rather the game came out finished an shining with polish. Hell I've waited going on 5 years for Silksong an that still doesnt have a release date. But then the handling of codes, the constant non communication, the state of the game being buggy as all hell etc just ruined all that excitement

I didn't have too bad bugs until winter. They aren't bad, but I've had one issue with processing geodes if I pressed to do it individually I couldnt move the geode to the right spot and had to reload the game. It wasn't a big deal. Now I'm getting duplicate tools 🤣 I have like 2 scythes and 2 shears at the moment.

I've heard that it's not a bug that the pets stay indoors. They haven't put it in the game yet that the pets can also go outside (which doesn't necessarily bother me). The only bug is that the speech bubble is now empty after the last fix when you talk to your pet

I don’t care much that they stay inside, thought why we can buy an outdoor pet house is weird, I mostly find it odd that my pet is always in the exact same spot. In the in game month I’ve had the pet it’s moved like twice.

They finally sent out an email about 2 AM EST today saying that Xbox and PlayStation outfit and mythical pet DLC keys are in progress and they’re targeting the END of January 2024 to be delivered to everyone 🙄

I just got that too. I hate to be that person but that’s truly unacceptable. THEY chose the games release date, for these keys to not be set up ahead of time is just not okay. I paid extra money for this dlc to have upon release, and at this point I’m going to finish the game before I even get them
