Steam Deck unable to enter decor mode while playing handheld

I can’t seem to enter decor mode while playing on the Steam Deck handheld. I see a R at the bottom right hand corner indicating decor mode but when I click on it my character picks up items from the bag. I was able to access when playing keyboard and mouse but I more often play handheld. Has anyone else encountered this while playing on the Steam Deck handheld?
