Town rank has been recalculated and adjusted as part of the merfolk/fall update.

The journal shows you the points you have earned only, they don’t indicate anything beyond that. Each rank starts at 0, you don’t get to see overall score.

The way to get points and point totals are different for each section and the breakdown is as follows:

Heritage is based on altar, each altar offering bundle that is completed is 40 points with another 40 bonus points for completing the full altar.

Museum is points from item donation, completing collections and completing quest line. 3 points per item, 45 points per collection and 50 points when museum expansion quest is complete. Collections are: all gems, all fossils, all artifacts, all bugs, all fish, all sea critters, etc.

Ocean is based on coral sites. 10 points per solar orb activation. 100 bonus points for healing the ocean.

There are bonus points for other actions but some are spoilers.

In conversation with my townies, they are saying two different ranks.
Some say D and others say E - the town board shows D.
Is this a bug I should be reporting?

Did your town rank recently change or is this a save that was started before update? Their dialogue should eventually catch up.

I know we didn't lose any points per say, but we did lose town rank, which sucks. On top of that, we lose the unlocks that come with the town rank. I run a Fairy Rose honey farm, so that really screwed me over. I was able to get myself to rank C in a couple of days, but I feel like I've been shafted. I'm also lost a lot of time.

I'm probably going to start over again because so many things changed that effect the amount of items that I have on my farm and what I focus on. I certainly don't need massive numbers of Bee Houses. LOL.

I know this. I 'm just laughing at myself. And crying a little. The update though, is very very good. The merfolk kingdom is awesome. I really like the DLC too. Being able to help Coral Reefs is a cool extra you don't usually get to do in supporting a game.

My problem is that I've finished the part of the ocean with regard to healing, and I've done the after quest with Cho that she presents. I have an A in Ocean and a D in heritage and Museum. I have around 190 total donated items for the museum and a scattered bit of offerings (the seasonal alter is completely done, one done for critters, and a few done in the others)

The museum feels overwhelming, and some of thr things I need for other parts of the alters involve Luwaks and Llamas as well as the advanced cooking and such. I want to to B rank in the hopes of getting the last of the animals but it feels so daunting as well because I have done nothing toward fishing and I keep thinking I have a new bug when it's just the same ones. I'll admit some frustration with that.

Otherwise, I love the update. I'm just overwhelmed with having been dropped down to D rank when I was psyched up to go crashing from the C I had been at into the B rank I wanted to be.

It can be overwhelming, but the update did add new coffers in the deep ocean and there are fossils in the mines now too, both of which will help with museum donations.

For fishing, I would skip until you can go straight to the master fishing pole, it’s just not worth the effort of getting the others. Or is accessibility an issue with fishing for you? I’m hopeful we get nets soon

Yep, you should be able to place it, which will guarantee a catch

Yeah I haven't used scents yet, but the traps have been life savers. Try to put 1 flying one and one ground one in each section.

The flying are great for some of the rare butterflies and moths, the ground for spiders is really nice.

But there’s also the critter traps for the ocean, which is a big help when hunting for rare spawns
