Completing I think 125 or 150 donated items at the museum gives you gold kelp which you can use in the slime replicator to generate free gold kelp, make sure the machine is always running to ensure you don't accidentally use up all your gold kelp.
You also get 5 gold kelp I think from a challenge in one of the festivals which you can again use in the machine to generate infinite gold kelp.

Works for any kelp or essence. Although essences are very very slow to replicate, kelp takes very little time
