I noticed the lineup for the romanceable characters had one merman, but it wasn’t the one featured in the Kickstarter. So is he just not romanceable? Or does he exist in the game?

he is not- and was never promised either

i can 100% say that someone will mod him and he will be an option

"He was not promised" is not an excuse and yes they do need excuses, this is a scam.

"A fake marketing scam occurs when the developers/producers mislead people, leading them to believe in something regarding the product".

Then taking it back like now, either saying that they did not "promise" such a thing or saying nothing (like they did).

In order to mislead you do not have to make any promises, if they did - it would be a very visible scam and easy to report as illegal activities.

The fact that the developers do not address the issue - clearly states that they do not want to get their hands dirty and want to get off the scam even more. If they say: "we will not make this character romanceable, apologies for any misunderstandings and for us misleading you since the very beginning with the Kickstarter" they will lose clients that are expecting to get the character storyline and romance anyway, since the developers haven't actually said a thing about it.

They choose to stay silent, while their consumers expect to receive something that they will most likely not get.

Example of what I said above: I now launch a farming game Kickstarter, portraying and advertising images of a farm on ice as if the environment was Antarctica, while mentioning the following characteristics: your character can take a plunge into the cold waters of the sea, wear warm sweaters for the freezing weather, create ice sculptures and adopt a penguin.

Once I launch the game, the farm is situated on a green mountain next to the beach, the weather is cold.

This is a scam, I mislead people, I make them believe without saying much that with my product they will be able to have a farm in Antarctica, with ice, penguins, etc. Only to sell them a cold climate farm in a green environment with a plushie penguin.

I never promised anything, I added pictures next to a few characteristics that will make you misunderstand what the final product is, and this is done ON PURPOSE.

yeah promoting Agung and Denali with datable merfolk is pretty misleading marketing.
even more so when they were the only two merfolk that got promo art, which did hype you up for both of them.
so yeah it is jarring and confusing that only one of the two made it in when people were expecting both due to marketing, and those being the two merfolk showed for the idea of datable merfolk.

while knowing modders will make it happen, I do hope in that post the game's full release, in an update or dlc Agung (and Axel and Senja) could be included romance options.

I was wondering because he was basically one of the reasons I backed the project lol…. Sad

yeah he was one of the reasons I was most excited for merfolk content
and I am still excited, it's just romance wise, he's the one I was looking forward to pursuing
and it is only a bummer that Semeru is the only merman to pursue and he doesn't really appeal to me as much.

I actually bought the game because of Agung, I thought that I could marry him and have a virtual family with him.

"They choose to stay silent, while their customers expect to receive something that they will most likely not get."

It has been explicitly stated that the romance lineup is complete. If someone is expecting something contrary to official dev statements, that's on them, not the devs.
