I have been trying to stock up for when the update releases in the fall and have been killing monsters in the wind mine for 5 in-game days, but wind essence is so rare. I am getting plenty of water essences, but only have managed to get 2 wind. Is there a trick? I've been concentrating on the ghosts and skellies.

the monster spawns arent all correct yet - you need to find the wind variants of some monsters to get the wind essence drops
& they arent strictly spawning in the wind mine (i know some fire and earth variants are def mixed up a bit)

the wiki's monster page should have more specifc details to help

theres a base form for monsters & then element forms/variants of them
