in the romance I'm trying to do I've seen all of the heart events, I'm 99% sure, but there's no "hey you wanna go on a date" or anything. So my question is do u have to wait for their gifts? or a certain amount of time has to pass? or give them something?

While we have a list of who can be romanced, I believe that the actual features of that aren’t implemented yet. I assume that will come with the full release according to this latest roadmap #📣announcements message

With the merfolk update you will be able to get to 8 hearts with all npc’s so you could continue working on that relationship still without it being a “proper” romance yet, but you could still consider them as your partner even if they aren’t able to be given that title just yet. Definitely a bit of imagining involved while things are still developing in early access, but still lots to do with building relationships and such in the meantime.

I have been at it awhile it's wakuu , I saw his whole story thingy with his dad and I told his dad to go talk to him etc. just nothing else happens right now. my farm is pretty full with crops and animals that's why I figured I'd try a relationship now. I dunno maybe I'll focus on getting all my crops to the purple/blue star rank
