The icon looks the same, but I wasn't sure if this might be considered a bug or maybe just something not really implemented. Is that intentional or no?

Yes. I asked about it elsewhere. The plain Geode generally comes from the planting festival, but you can also get it from the Black Market.

geode = alpha version of geodes- same drop table as earth geodes- no bug- serves no other purpose other than it's the alpha version
