How do I unlock the waypoint by the blacksmith?

I read somewhere that you need to catch 50 bugs (don't have to be unique), which I've already done. Is that a mistake and they do have to be unique, or am I experiencing a bug lol?

The fast travel unlock conditions don’t start to count until after you’ve unlocked the fast travel ability itself from the goddess

So likely you haven’t yet hit the 50 since you unlocked fast travel 😉

I've counted, but unfortunately I have 54 bugs caught so I think it's something else. 😦

I've only caught 19 unique bugs, though! Is that it maybe?

Yes but any of the bugs caught before you got the ability of fast travel opened do not count

The waypoints don’t know to track your unlock progress until you first have the fast travel ability unlocked

Ooooooh! That's what you meant by "since you unlocked fast travel!" I thought it was a "you have fast travel, so it must be the bugs" rather than a "50 bugs after fast travel unlocked" scenario lol.
