I just finished spring in my first ever save, and with the summer update right around the corner would it be worth it to put the save on pause until the update comes out?

so the choice is honestly yours. when they dropped the spring update- the new stuff all picked up once you got back to that season, you dont have to pause if you dont want to.
so example (because we dont know when in may this is coming but will probably be late may)
if you play and continue to play and end up in winter year 2 by the time the next update rolls around, when you get summer year 3 in game, you'll get the new pet festival that was added just the same as if you had waited for it in year one
i hope that made sense. like you dont really have to wait because you'll still get to experience it no matter how far you are into the game
