I’ve noticed this for some time and I’ve looked at the responses to people reporting that he is no longer able to receive gifts from the player (purposefully changed). But, why exactly was this done? Was it to reduce amount of townies with whom heart events can occur with? I’m saddened to lose this interaction with him. Even if there was no greater outcome it felt pleasant to give this clearly lonely guy some juice and mushrooms and for him to respond how he’d make use of it.
