Giant Sea Bass is one of two fish I need to complete all the fish in the game (need the Red King Arowana too). I am maxed on my fishing level, have the best rod, and know how to bring in the monster legendary fish - but this one is proving to be impossible to land and I only have 5 days left in game to complete it in (I am in Fall Year 2 - first week) before it is unavailable again for yet another year. I can manage to keep it on the line (tap tap while fighting and pull when it rests) but each time I barely get off the starting line spot before it starts struggling again and takes it back to the starting line. I literally had one on the line for an hour and half in the game staying at the starting line with it but never getting it beyond that - and I finally had to bail on it because I was about to pass out if I didn't get home and to bed pronto.

So my question is... after this most recent update.... has anyone successfully caught one of these bad boys and if so how did you manage it? I feel like I may be wasting my morning/night time hours at this point if it is impossible until we are allowed to level up further than we currently can. I need the rove beetles too, so I could use the night time to hunt for them too but if possible to get this I will keep trying.

i have caught one on 2 different files so it can be done. lotta patience.

with that being said . i got stupid frustrated/angry with bugs/fishing that i now use wemod because it's just too much

Did you do that catching since the update? I have gotten these too before - but not since the update. They got harder.

I have caught it twice after the update. All legendary fish are frustrating, but this is one of top ones.
Like others have said, you have to reel it in right from the start to prevent the fish from tugging the line too far and make it impossible to reel in. This part you have to let the line go red. Don’t even bother tapping, just hold it till it’s red, then tap to prevent it from breaking. Otherwise you get stuck like you have said and don’t get anywhere.
The giant sea bass has short cycles between relaxing and struggling. After the initial pull, I try to make sure that the line doesn’t go past the red when it’s struggling using medium taps. Very slightly before the relaxation phase, I let go to allow the line to slacken. This allows me to maximize the relaxation phase to pull as much as I can. Even then it’s a challenge, and it can even take me like 3~5 in game hours to catch.

I may just write it off for now and tackle it after the next update that allows us to push on with leveling up our fishing mastery.

I could not catch it in beta even though I had already caught it in my main game. When the skill points reset I picked Lucky Angler, which I did not have in beta, and the second time I tried for the fish I caught it.

I have another game file that I may play on with that is at spring 20 year 1 (started it before the update and set it aside to play on with later) and on that one will choose the lucky angler skill perk.

This fish is a p.i.t.a.!! It's so much harder to catch than the other legendary fish. I understand balancing but they went over board with this one. I'm going to break my mouse with all the damn clicking! It's too much. 🤨

I gave up - max everything but it broke my line every single time, and my hand was getting really tired attempting to catch it, so I just let the window pass

It's only a one week window too 😦
