Fishing Question : Bait?

I've just bought bait from the fishing shop near the pier, it says I need to attach it to my fishing pole, but I'm not able to figure out how to do that? Any ideas or is it not a thing yet?

put the fish bait in here, and don’t forget to unequipped it after fishing, because i heard it can be gone once you quit the game or something, so just to be safe if you want to still have the bait in your inventory then better unequipped it once finish your fishing activity 😉

I don't think bait actually does anything though. I still catch trash and rarely high quality fish with it, so I just stopped using it altogether
