I just started off and would like some tips to make my gameplay more smooth.

Things I do now on new files that I didn’t know at first:
Game speed (adjust from settings menu) - my preference is 70% but if you want to maximize how much time you can explore every day go all the way down to 50%! I also like 50% when fishing (& sometimes diving)
Day 1 once the furniture store opens I go & buy a wooden chest - saves my resources for my house updates and other things that help me more than the tiny makeshift chest
My first few days (before bug net) are always spent gathering allll the foraging - I sell as I go (at Sam’s & the beach shack) which usually gives me enough money to also get my first bag purchased like day 1 if I’m lucky and time my shopping right or right away day 2
Once I have my bug net bug catching becomes easy income for me most of my first in game week
Those are my first things I remember - might have more I add later lol

Oh! When you get the letter from Ling to meet her at the diving pier make sure you GO THAT DAY - that quest line has a bug right now and if you don’t go the day you get the letter you will be able to dive but won’t be able to progress the quest at all 😶 (ofc this is just a rn problem bc it’ll have to be fixed eventually lol)

ooh, thanks, i got my bag upgrade on day 4 or 5 ;-;

also didn't know that pressing on an item bought it and made 300 coins into 90 after selling the item

and don't sell the trash, it will be useful later (same with crap)

i don't sell materials, i do sell the things i forage tho like shells and flowers and bugs as well

I would keep the flowers with good quality as they will make you more money once they turn into honey using a beehive. 😄

Don't forget to save items that have the "Offered" tag on them. This tag can be seen when hovering over the item. Offerings are for the altar.

Ah, I just finished the quest after meeting the goddess

Bag space is a bit of a problem tho, next upgrade is 3.5k

something I did when in earth cavern/before my pickaxe was upgraded - I stuck to only mining the small/flat rocks to look for the next hole down, helped preserve my stamina bc they break in 1 hit with starter pick vs the normal/tall rocks needing 2 hits with it

i leave my watering can but i bring the rest along

in line with the leave tools in chest (for when my backpack is only the 1st 500c upgrade) - my must have with me tools goes like so:
-> going mining = pickaxe & sword
-> going diving = scythe & bug net

I always carry my hoe so I can grab those lovely green flowers with surprises in them 🙂

I haven’t seen a patch note about that quest bug yet
If you’ve gone diving & gotten the Surya cutscene where you were give the Extractor blueprint & quest line, you’re all good.
You can Check your quest log if you’re not sure - if you still have the ‘Into the Ocean’ quest with the prompt to meet Ling at the pier, then eventually in ocean you’ll end up stuck/won’t be able to access silver kelp diving zone until devs fix the bug

Build the greenhouse as soon as possible when winter comes is really helpful to plant more crops because there are limited crops available in winter. You can unlock it after completing first altar offering (Essential Resources, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Ocean Scavangeables).

is there any easy way to keep track of what you need to donate?

They got extreme economy nerf a month ago, makes the prices of Artisan Goods are wayy way lower. If one really looking forward to make good money, my take is to spend all your money for seeds only.
First pick the seeds with least growing time, harvest and replace them with the same seed (to ensure you got a good cash flow). Focus on enlarging your crop yield.
Second, if you have more money, focus on the most profitable crops. To determine what crop to focus on, you can get the sell prices from:
https://coralisland.fandom.com/wiki/Crops
Don’t forget to forage, fish, dive for extra money.
Focus your money to save for a house upgrade (that comes with a kitchen). After kitchen, you can make good money with cooking Bug Jerky from the bugs you forage and you can make good chunk of money after that...

Coral Island Wiki

Crops are plants that the player can grow on their farm to sell for profit, process into artisan goods or cooked dishes, consume to restore health and energy, or give to other characters as gifts. Crops are seasonal, which means they only grow during a specific season and die when the seasons change. However, some crops can be planted in multipl...
