I finally got my bronze milk and did the other coral sites. In my Journal it says to follow the retreated roots (WIP) but I haven't been able to cross that off either so does it stand for work in progress?

Work In Progress. That area is not in use right now (it was before the update but they basically removed it for now).

You can't finish the retreated roots quest at this time.
