Dead tree irremovable?

I planted rambutan near end of summer and turns out they died on fall. Seeing that the plant can't be saved anymore, I wanted to pluck them out. However no tool could be used to remove it. Or am I missing something?

My axe worked on dead fruit trees bef the hotfix. I’ve yet to try if it still works when fall on my save ends.

Axe will chop it down but it’s takes MULTIPLE hits - I think my gold axe was like 7 hits to get rid of a dead fruit plant

Really? Is that because of the new update? Because during beta I only had to hit it with a gold ax once
