can we dig while diving?

I know that we literally can, but I was wondering if anyone knows for a fact that that when you do dig, you can find things like coffers and trash

you find those by scytheing trash on the ocean floor and you can use pickaxe on boulders. thats it

I tried digging underwater and never got something from it

although it might get implemented in future updates

since the merfolk update might bring way more ways to do underwater activities (||referring to the underwater mines and stuff of that sort||)

I have found some stone by using the pickaxe on stone underwater, but I don’t think I found anything but stone yet
