So am I correct in assuming that if you don't reach C rank half way by fall you're blocked from getting the greenhouse?

Not blocked exactly - there's always next year...
Besides, after game update they would (hopefully) change for winter crops for real (at least that's what was leaked in accidental update that was rolled back).
Though you would still need to get rank C for cotton seeds.

Well, I didn't unlock rank C until the last day of fall. So that is pretty frustrating that you need fall crops but it isn't built in that you could miss finishing it in the first year. That actually kinda really makes me annoyed as hell because I was planning my whole game based around getting the greenhouse in winter because there was no indication of the soft block of it.
So it makes me not even want to play winter honestly because that just makes me have to grind for no reason other than not being informed properly.

I did the same thing. I was very upset with it after learning the crops weren't actually winter crops and I hadn't gone into the store at all to see if any new seeds were available. I just got the green house after day 15 of Fall year 2.

Man....I honestly don't know if I wanna do that. I hate unnecessary grind. This also feels punishing because it isn't necessary to soft lock that plus it is pretty assanine to have your winter crops actually be fall crops that need at least 11 days to even grow.
