Hi!
I just read that you get to choose a pet when customization your character. I totally missed that. Is it true that you actually choose a pet in the current version or is that something coming up?

its not currently possible in the current ea version i think

look at the update plan in-game on the title screen it says pets are one of the last things to be implemented before 1.0. Edit: I looked at the "roadmap" to double check myself and "adoptable pets" will be in the sixth major update.
