So one thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes the cows and chickens crank out high quality eggs/milk and sometimes doesn’t….the same with crops. Is that supposed to happen or is it a bug that they’ll work out?

in general there is no fixed quota with the standard quality to better quality but obviously better quality is rarer as it depends on luck
however to achieve constant high quality you need to upgarde the seeds/ hay at lings lab and use fertilizer on plants
for the animals its also important to do increase the relationship with them
if you do all those your chacne of high quality inceases/ depending on upgrades etc you will have guararnteed higher quality crops
