In the case of my inventory being full, where do I go to retrieve an item I was supposed to get? ie. the soft bristle brush, my inventory was full and the cutscene triggers as soon as you step foot outside your house.

The Soft Bristle Brush is a special item like the Diving Suit that doesn't go in your normal inventory. Otherwise I think overflow items get mailed to you?
