I know when and where they apear, but they are literally impossible to catch and I was wondering if there a certain technique to catching them.

I watch them for a bit to see which direction they fly in, then I run a large arc around their awareness area towards where I know they'll be flying so that I can be in front of them. Then I crouch towards them and catch them where we meet. It's important that you make certain that they're not going to stop partway, so keep an eye out for any possible obstructions in their flight path before you start circling. I sometimes have to run all the way back to where it started when it decides to turn around part way through me getting to where I think it's going. It might take a few tries to get the hang of it, just be patient and happy hunting :)
You need them to be flying towards you while you sneak towards them, in order to have the needed distance crossed to get the green light on them.

I was able to catch one only after buying the upgraded net. I failed (seemingly) a dozen times without it. After buying the better one, I caught the next one I found with little struggle.

So you need to be in front of them? I have had them in green status like, 40 times in 3 different locations every night with the quality net and not able to grab them.
