#Can't add hay to chicken coop?

Made a chicken coop, and when going to add hay to the feeder - it says 0/0 hay and won't let me add hay? Is there something I'm missing?

I've only been able to get hay in the feeder by using a mill to turn grass into hay and fill the silo

any hay that's out of the feeder can't be put in anywhere that I've found, so it's a storing and handfeeding situation if you buy or make it separately from the mill.
