I started another new game to layout the farm how I wanted to, etc.

I have my tools to silver. I thought you could cut the big long logs on your farm with silver? I don't have gold yet as I haven't been able to find any (I have the +2% chance in mastery for same).

Has there been an update that changed this? The chance of finding hardwood(I swear there's not a tree left in game as I've been cutting trees everyday)

Also I've made it to the bottom of the water mine but the warp to the mines still isn't activated. Glitch or update change?

gold ore can only be bought at the blacksmith and the gold axe is needed for the bigger fallen logs. you can always buy hardwood from the carpenter if needed/wanted to get ahead. nothing yet, the %hardwood is as it, there is also a chance of finding hardwood while diving and clearing trash. Not what you're missing from the water mines. lvl 40 water is the furthest we can go at the moment and with elevator access

You need gold tools to break the bigger logs to get hardwood. However, since you also need hardwood to upgrade your axe to gold, you can use dynamite on the logs you can’t break and get hardwood that way

I’m not sure if you can do it with a silver pickaxe or if you need gold (I happened to have a gold pickaxe when I tried it) but the rock by Paul’s house gives 10 gold ore if you break it

Oh that warp, yeah mine didn't unlock as I thought it should given it's hint, but it eventually started working of which I don't know what triggered it.

and what Juvia said, for some free gold ore, that boulder can be taken out with a silver pickaxe, may have to dance around and spam a little, Left side has worked well for people, should hear a ding to know you're hitting it

You can use bombs to explode the bigger fallen tree logs on your farm.

Oh if the warp by the mines doesn't activate and you've gotten pretty far, it's probably cause you hit the unlock condition before unlocking warps. I'm fairly certain you can force it to register you having gotten far enough by going to the level 15 earth elevator in and out.
