Cooking only makes failed dishes?

I've tried cooking a number of things and they always turn out as a failed dish, even if I follow a recipe from the spreadsheet someone posted here. I just tried to make wasabi paste using a blender + wasabi, and it didn't work. Anyone know why?

i've seen people having issues with cooking using star'd items. was the wasabi base or bronze+?
